Performance Management

The Performance Management Observatory was established in 2018 in collaboration with the Marco Biagi Department of Economics and the JobPricing Observatory.

The topics it focuses on are the analysis and monitoring of the main trends in performance management in Italian companies to understand the changes in the organisational and legal regulation of work that accompany the digital transformation / Industry 4.0.

The Observatory aims to return an articulated, in-depth picture of the performance management systems and practices in use in Italian companies and of the attitudes and perceptions of workers towards the systems and practices they use.

Activities of the Observatory

Education

The Performance Management Observatory offers different types of courses to meet today’s needs for continuing education and training with different products, adopting innovative teaching methods and an interdisciplinary approach.

The main topics covered by our university and continuing education courses are:

• People analytics, data-driven human resources management and performance management;
• Performance management and innovation;
• Performance management, Diversity Equity and Inclusion;
• Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and redesigning inclusive organisational processes.

Research

From an interdisciplinary perspective the Observatory’s activities feed, the University public engagement (so called third mission) (reports, conferences and workshops and European-funded research projects), research (through publications in academic volumes and journals) and teaching.

The Observatory’s activities are structured along two axes: the biannual survey addressed to companies and workers, whose data are analysed in a joint and structured reflection by scholars from different disciplines (management, law, economics) and published in aggregate and anonymous form in the Performance Management Report; and the biannual workshops, occasions for comparison with other companies, but also opportunities to identify and share good practices and innovative approaches to performance management, and to access theoretical knowledge useful to guide the processes of introducing and redesigning their own performance management systems.

The observatory is promoted by the Marco Biagi Foundation with the support of the JobPricing team, and is made up of experts from the academic, corporate and management consultancy fields with over 15 years of direct experience in HR management. The main stakeholders of the Observatory are local and national companies. To date, around fifty companies have expressed interest in participating in the activities or qualifying as partners of the Observatory.
